NeonSmith Privacy Policy

NeonSmith is an app for setting up and controlling LED devices that run WLED firmware. This policy explains exactly what the app does with your information. The short version: it doesn't collect any.

What we collect

Nothing. NeonSmith has no accounts, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking of any kind. We do not operate a server that receives your data.

What the app stores on your device

The following stays in the app's local storage on your phone or tablet, and is never sent anywhere except to your own LED hardware:

• Names, IP addresses, and MAC addresses of the LED devices you add
• WiFi network names and passwords you enter during device setup, so the app can configure your hardware to join that network
• Your app preferences and saved lighting presets

Uninstalling the app deletes all of it.

What leaves your device

To your LED hardware, on your local network. Commands, colors, effects, and — during setup — the WiFi credentials you chose for that device. This traffic goes directly from your phone to the device over your own network. It does not pass through us.

To flash.neonsmith.com. When you check for or install a firmware update, the app requests a version file and, if you confirm, downloads a firmware image. These requests contain no personal information and no device identifiers.

To Expo's update service (u.expo.dev). The app checks for over-the-air app updates on launch using Expo Updates, a service operated by Expo (expo.dev). This request includes technical details needed to serve the right update — platform, app version, and update identifier. It does not include personal information. Permissions, and why they exist

• Location (Android and iOS) — Both operating systems require location permission from any app that scans for or connects to WiFi networks and nearby Bluetooth devices. NeonSmith requests it solely to discover and connect to your LED hardware. The app never reads, stores, or transmits your location.
• Local network / WiFi — To find your devices, join a new device's temporary setup network, and send control commands.
• Bluetooth — An alternative way to configure a device that hasn't joined WiFi yet.

Children

NeonSmith is not directed at children under 13 and collects no information from anyone.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new "last updated" date.
